Wayfinder combines three core inputs to provide optimized guidance to your vessels each and everyday.

Highly accurate inputs create the Wayfinder data ecosystem, drive daily optimization, and result in safety improvements and economic gains across your fleet.

1. Market Conditions

Market factors are the first key input for the Wayfinder optimization engine. Wayfinder calculates your minimum total voyage cost based on the calculated cost of time and fuel.

Market factors are initially collected from your shoreside team during onboarding and should be updated at the outset of each voyage.

Required Market Factors:

  1. Standard Fuel Cost ($/MT)
  2. ECA Fuel Cost ($/MT)
  3. EU allowance cost ($/MT CO₂)
  4. Opportunity Cost ($/Day)

2. Sofar Weather

We developed a marine sensing platform called Spotter and deployed hundreds globally to create the largest privately-owned network of ocean sensors. Each day, this network makes more than 1.5 million real-time observations of waves and other ocean variables.

We combine the spotter observations with altimeter data to produce global weather forecast which have proven to be up to 50% more accurate than other operational forecasts.

3. Sofar Vessel Performance Models

Sofar builds custom vessel performance models for each vessel. The models are initially created during vessel onboarding using class average vessel data based on the hull characteristics and vessel details provided. When historical performance data is available, we use this to tune the model specifically to your vessel before routing even begins.

The model is then updated and calibrated on an ongoing basis based on information provided in the daily performance reports submitted to Wayfinder.

Three key inputs help to form the high accurate, customized vessel performance models used in Wayfinder. 1) Vessel particulars 2) Vessel performance data (historical and daily) 3) Sofar weather data
