Note: this feature may not apply **depending on your Wayfinder plan
You have the ability to visualize different categories of Navigational Warnings from the map layers selector as shown in the image below. There are a total of 6 categories available:
These layers can be filtered by zone type, allowing the user to focus on the areas of interest.
Please note that not all zones are categorized by Navarea Coordinators, so make sure to also review the ‘Uncategorized’ section while sailing.
Users can click on each Navigational Warning directly on the map to review further details. This includes the identification number, zone type, commencement and expiration date (if available), and the full warning text.
This feature is intended to give masters, operators, and other shoreside users additional situational awareness directly in Wayfinder. Navigational Warnings are situation-specific, and ultimately masters will have final discretion on whether to enter or avoid them.
Please note: this feature does not relieve Captains of the requirement to receive Navigational Warnings through IMO approved broadcast services in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. This is provided as a supplement to those approved services.
In order to facilitate that decision-making process, we will adjust our routing procedures as follows:
Sofar Routers will include an alert in email guidance when any active route or suggested route passes through a navigational warning. Alerts will be sent up to 72 hours ahead of the anticipated intersection time and will persist until the active route is clear of the area.
Example Advisory Below
“Advisory: Your route converges with Firing Navwarning on March 24 1200z. We defer to your expertise for avoidance and kindly ask you update your route in Wayfinder if required. If no response to this advisory, will assume sailing through Navwarning is acceptable.”
The captain should review the Navwarning in Wayfinder and determine if they would like to avoid the area
