Voyage constraints should be set based on the commercial or operational requirements of each voyage. Wayfinder offers flexible constraint configurations to suit your voyage requirements.

The Wayfinder optimization engine will balance the market inputs with the provided constraints too deliver daily route guidance that minimizes voyage cost, while abiding by commercial requirements.

What constraints are available?

  1. Required Time of Arrival (RTA)
  2. Average Speed
  3. Max daily M/E fuel consumption

When should I use constraints?

Constraints should be used only when commercially or operationally required, as they limit the optimization from finding the most optimal solution. Typically, Wayfinder uses the provided market factors, and determines the optimal RPM setting across the allowable operating range.

A completely unconstrained voyage allows Wayfinder to optimize based on market factors.

A completely unconstrained voyage allows Wayfinder to optimize based on market factors.

However, in this example if an RTA constraint is added, the vessel must to be run at higher speeds, and this limits the range of optimization. With this input, Wayfinder will still determine the optimal RPM in the allowable range, but this is inherently less optimal than the RPM when there was no constraint.
